Afsal Mohammed B is a social volunteer and activist hailing from Kerala, India. He is the Founder and CEO of Captains Social Foundation and is the Co-founder of The Gulmohar Foundation and Institute of Social Volunteering.
Volunteering is his ever-time passion and always took up his own initiatives, inspiring others to the act of volunteerism. For the last 15 years, he has been volunteering with various organisation for different causes and had engaged 1,00,000+ youth all over India. He aims to create a network of socially committed volunteers who can be the change and change makers in our society and had undertaken 100+ initiatives in the field of Education, Health, Environment, Volunteer Development & Management. He had won the iVolunteer Award, the premier national recognition for exceptional volunteer and development in India's social sector in 2018 & 2019. He was also the Top Online Volunteer of United Nations Volunteer, India in 2017.
Afsal pursued his Bachelor's Technology in Mechanical Production Engineering from TKM College of Engineering, Kollam. His final year project - "Design and Fabrication of Plastic Bottle Shredder for Perinad Gramapanchayat" which was a part of his social project - " The Journey of Awakening for Protecting Life Underwater" has won the 5th Millennium Ocean Prize; an international award for Ocean Conservation.
He was one among the Millennium Fellows of United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) in 2018 and was the Deputy General Secretary of the State Committee of UNAI - Kerala Forumn on United Nations Academic Impact (KFUNAI). He has been a part of organising, three Model United Nations in Kerala. He has been a part of Jagriti Yatra in 2019. Now he is on an "Experimental Less-Penny Volunteering Journey" through out India to meet & appreciate volunteers for their efforts bring a change in their society and had completed travelling to 20+ Indian states solely. He had published a book based on his journeys - മനുഷ്യരിലേക്ക്! - A JOURNEY BY CAPTAINAFSAL. He had also published a handbook on volunteerism - An Introduction to Volunteerism in India.
His dream project is to develop an institute for volunteers - Institute for Social Volunteering. It aims to promote Volunteering, Volunteer Skill & Capacity Building, Sustainable Development Goals and will connect volunteers with social opportunities and communities. The institute will redefine the concept of volunteering. The institute will provide courses on various social-volunteering practices and opportunities along with self-transformation and discovery.
He is now creating an inclusive sustainable ecosystem for social volunteers and organisations through Captains Social Foundation.It is a one-stop destination for volunteers and social organizations to ideate, design, executive & outreach social projects. It incubate ideas, evaluate solutions & act as a support system to enhance the growth and impact of social issues and initiatives. It is creating a platform for volunteers and organizations to network, collaborate and undertake social initiatives to bring sustainable changes in the society. It is enhancing the capacity, potential and creativity of youth to address social issues and to create sustainable impact in the society. They believe in youth and invest in them by providing tools and skills, connecting them with like-minded volunteers & organisations and sharing their stories and impact to the world. They are looking forward to bridging the gap between opportunities, volunteers and organisations.
